Economics is the study of how people make choices and how markets work in allocating scarce resources. Therefore, the scope of the economics discipline is very broad, ranging from the analysis of the behavior of individual market participants to the role of government in implementing public policies. The Department of Economics is committed to providing students with comprehensive understanding of economic theories and empirical models that help analyze a wide range of policy-related issues including, but not limited to, labor, education, environment, market structure as well as business cycle. Since 2006, the Department of Economics has been participating in the government-funded ‘BrainKorea21(BK21)’ program(called ‘BK21 plus’ after 2013), which aims to produce creative leaders through rigorous academic training in leading graduate programs in the nation. The entering undergraduate class comprises 96 well-qualified students each year. At any given time, there are approximately 500 undergraduate and 50 graduate students in residence. As of 2017, the Department consists of 18 faculty members who are devoted to excellence in teaching and research.
